Train with professional fighters in a safe, supportive environment. From complete beginners to experienced martial artists, everyone is welcome.
Bristol SU recognises that the costs of participating in student groups can be prohibitively expensive for some students. The Activity Hardship Fund was created to support those students who wouldn't otherwise be able to participate in their chosen activity due to the cost.
Whether you've never trained before or already have years of experience, you'll have a place here.
We're one of the largest martial arts societies at the University of Bristol, with students joining us for completely different reasons. Some want to learn Muay Thai for the first time, some want a new way to stay fit, and others want to train seriously and compete.
Our regular sessions are designed for mixed abilities, so you can progress at your own pace without needing previous martial arts experience. Alongside weekly training, we run women's-only sessions, a dedicated Fight Team and a busy social calendar throughout the year.
The society is just as much about the people you meet as the training itself. Come to learn a new skill, compete, get fitter, or simply find a group of people to train and spend time with.
Our members train under professional Muay Thai coach Joe Phillips throughout the academic year.
Joe leads our regular coached sessions and works with everyone from students stepping into a Muay Thai gym for the first time to members preparing to compete with our Fight Team.
Outside the university, Joe runs CoolHeart Combat Sports, his independent gym in Bristol, giving members who want to train more another place to continue developing their Muay Thai.
