PGR Resource Centre

We want all our members to have the best possible time at university, and we know PGRs need unique spaces, communities and support.

This page showcases everything we have on offer for PGRs.

What is Bristol SU?

Students’ Unions are often known for providing the FUN stuff you can do alongside your course. Whilst we do a LOT of this, we also support your academic achievement in many ways!

Like a trade union, we represent you through elected reps who lobby the University to make the changes you’d like to see. We champion topics like education, welfare and student life, rather than employment rights and pay (which you'd go to your trade union for!).

Being a member of Bristol SU is free, and you’re automatically enrolled as a University of Bristol student. Since we're not-for-profit, any money we do make goes straight back into improving your student experience!

Events, Sports and Spaces

Whether you want to find friends through a shared hobby or book a venue for your own PGR meet ups, we'll help you find your place in the University of Bristol community.

If you're looking for a budget-friendly way to stay active, Intramural Sport offers weekly league matches in Bristol.

Events

Bristol SU hosts events for postgraduate students throughout the year, particularly during Welcome Week. We recommend the Bristol tours and boat trips as well as our postgrad meet ups!

You're very welcome to attend events with a broader audience, but we know PGRs often want to spend time with fellow postgrads.

Student Groups

Our 350 student groups and their events are open to all students. Some have a larger postgrad presence, with a PG Rep to support engagement from researchers!

These groups include: Space Exploration Society, Combat Karate, Expeditions Society, LGBTQ+ Society and Climbing.

Intramural Sport

Take part in a fun, social, multi-sport programme for students across the University. Intramural Sport offers great value for money, significantly beating local alternatives on price.

If you have a group of friends who would like to play, you can start your own team, or join as part of a society.

Space Booking

If you’ve got your own club, you’re welcome to use our spaces for meet ups! We offer ad-hoc room bookings, community spaces and larger scale special events.

Simply browse our spaces and book one that suits your group’s needs.

Support and Representation

Bristol SU can support you academically and even provides free housing advice!

We’ll help you through those unexpected bits of student life – such as academic appeals or bad landlords – all while representing your interests through our system of 900 academic reps.

Academic Reps

Your elected Postgraduate Education Officer and six PGR Faculty Reps represent you. They see the 'inner workings' of the University, using their positions on key committees to push for better training and support for PGRs.

If you have an idea for change or any feedback, pass it on!
