Fitness for Professional Practise

Some professional courses, such as Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science, Social Work and Teaching carry with them additional expectations about professional behaviour alongside the academic work. This is known as Fitness to Practise, Suitability for Social Work, or Fitness to Teach, as defined by your profession’s regulatory body.

The University investigates concerns under these policies to ensure student support and prevent risks.

Both the University and the relevant professional bodies expect that students’ behaviour during teaching, in placement settings, and outside of their studies maintains a professional standard. This applied to your own actions as well as your response to others’. For example, failing to report an incident - even if not directly involved - will be taken seriously, as it reflects your professional attitude.
