Description

                                                        Bristol University Polo Club

BUPC is a sociable, fun and competitive club that caters to people who’ve never ridden before, to those who play regularly outside of uni.

If you’ve ever considered dipping your toes into the thrilling world of polo, then now is the time to do so, as university training and matches are the cheapest you will ever get - the pressure is off too as we have no selection trials, no gym membership required, and you can play as little or as much as you'd like!

                                                                         TRAINING

Beaufort Polo Club

We train weekly (usually Wednesday afternoons) at Beaufort Polo School in Gloucestershire with HPA coach Mhairi Gould. Beaufort is also the home of the Tomlinson brothers, 6 and 7 goal players.  A lesson includes stick and balling, drills and practice chukkas from £55 per session. We aim to lift share for the 40 minute journey, so we'd recommend bringing your car to university to ensure we have enough drivers.

Whilst training prices may seem steep, unlike most sports teams, we do not require you to train every week or purchase a gym membership to compete. This year, our memberships are priced at £55 for Squad members and FREE for Social members.

FIXTURES

We regularly compete in a number of friendly matches, tournaments, and varsity matches against other unis throughout the year, with opportunities for everyone from beginners to open players to take part. We have an annual varsity tournament against UWE and Exeter and we will be playing friendlies against them and RAU who will be joining us at Beaufort.

The highlight of our season is the SUPA winter and summer nationals in Warwickshire which allows teams of all abilities from the club to compete against universities from all over the country. It’s also a great social event, where you can make friends with players from across the country.

SOCIALS

Socials run throughout the year and can be anything from pub nights to events and post-match parties. We also attend many of the polo balls taking place at other universities - these are a great way to catch up with those friends made at Nationals. To inspire you and keep you in the polo spirit over the summer, we attend fixtures such as the Gold Cup and Cartier Queen's Cup - there may even be a polo trip abroad in the works...
