Your First Term Checklist!

Tuesday 05-11-2024 - 09:00

We’re already halfway through the first term—how did that happen!

It’s been a whirlwind few weeks full of new faces, fresh starts, and all the excitement that comes with university life. With the holidays inching closer, we thought we’d pull together a quick checklist of must-dos before term ends!

Whether it's signing up for a local doctor or getting involved with one of our clubs and societies, this checklist is simple to complete and really important for the rest of your university experience. So, why not take a read through it? 🤩

🩺Sign Up with a Doctor

Now that you're living in Bristol it's important to sign up with a local doctor, or General Practitioner (GP) so that you can get help if you ever feel ill or injure yourself.

A GP is a doctor who is trained in recognising and treating minor or chronic illnesses, but they can also refer you to other treatments or a hospital if this is needed. The uni has some really useful information about health care in the UK, which you can read here.

You can find your local GP and register with them right here. Just type in your Bristol postcode and the website will list your nearest doctors!

Bristol Uni actually has its own Student Health Service. It's completely free and easy to register for! You can register right here. You'll be able to book appointments, sort out any repeat prescriptions you need, and more.

🌳Venture into Nature!

Did you know that nature is right on your doorstep here in Bristol! Just a 5 minuite walk across the Clifton Suspension Bridge lies Leigh Woods and Ashton Court Estate!

Grab a hot drink in a to-go cup and take a wander around these two parks and unwind!

You can check out this handy guide which highlights other Nature Reserves near Bristol if this has you hooked.

💉Get your Flu Jab!

We're entering the colder months, and while we can be excited for the holidays we need to be aware that it's flu season!

The flu vaccine, or flu jab, is given out for free on the NHS to certain people, who may be more vulnerable to getting seriously ill. For example, if you have a long-term health condition like asthma, diabetes, or a heart condition. To see if you're able to get the vaccine for free, see here.

Where can you get the Flu Jab? You'll be able to get your jab at pharmacies all around Bristol and South West of England. To find out which pharmacies near you are offering this, type in your postcode here.

🤹‍♀️Sign Up for One of Our Clubs or Societies!

It's never too late to get involved with one of our clubs and societies. Whatever you're interested in, we're likely to have something for you!

In fact, we are home to around 400 sports clubs and societies. From cheese tasting to skydiving, you can browse all of these groups right here.

If you're eligible to vote in the UK, you have the right to have your say. 📢 You can find out more about eligibility and voting as a student here

If you have a Bristol address, you may be able to vote in local elections here in Bristol. For students with home and uni addresses in different local authority areas, you can vote in local elections in both areas but only in one location for general elections.

You can check if you've registered to vote before right here. If you haven't, then you can register to vote here. It only takes a few minutes!

🚌 Take a Day Trip!

Bristol is a great hub for visiting the best of the south west! Hop on a train and explore the City of Bath, Exeter or Sailsbury.

If ancient history is your thing, you can take a trip to Stonehenge or explore the wonderful village of Glastonbury to climb the Tor!

Also did you know that London is only 2 and a half hours away! Hop on a bus from Bristol coach station and explore the capital 💂

Don't fancy the hassle of organsing your own transport? Why don't you check out our great day trips organised by our events team here! 🚌
