Every year, thousands of students share their thoughts with us through the Big Bristol SU Survey (or BBSU as we like to call it). It’s our way of listening to you, who we represent. We want to make sure we’re delivering the support, services, and opportunities you need.

You Said, We Listened
“Expanding social spaces and study spaces - they are always too busy”
We opened the Bristol SU Basement in December!
A new space in the heart of campus that can now be booked out for student group activities and meetings. This multi-purpose space hosts physical activities, meeting space and prayer space. Katie your Union Affairs officer was pivotal in lobbying the university to give us this space, using your comments in the BBSU survey to share your voice!
Overall, we have increased the number of student groups that book spaces with us, reaching more students from different backgrounds! It has been great to see so many students take advantage of some of the amazing free spaces we have on offer! “Keep prioritising inclusion and create events everyone feels comfortable attending”
We’ve worked hard to make our events more accessible and inclusive for everyone. Over the past year, we’ve introduced a varied programme of events designed to reach different communities and ensure that all students feel welcome.
To support those who need extra assistance, we now offer free PA tickets for day trips, making it easier for everyone to join in. We’ve also upgraded the induction loop in the Anson Rooms, so events like Student Council are accessible to all. On top of this, we’ve added detailed accessibility guides and an Accessibility Matrix to our event listings on the website, helping you plan and attend with confidence.
At Bristol SU, we’re committed to creating spaces and experiences where every student feels included and supported. This includes Postgraduate students who have taken up our PG Pint’s social events, put in place by Sharan your Postgraduate Education Officer 🍺
“Creating more social opportunities for students to mix, as well as engaging further with local communities and businesses for students to connect with the city.”
We’ve expanded our calendar with exciting opportunities to meet new people and explore Bristol. Such as putting on one of the biggest Welcome Fairs in the country and following it up with our Refreshers Fair, which is just around the corner. Here you can meet local businesses and get a flavour of life in Bristol. We have also continued our amazing Special Event programme in the Anson Rooms. In TB1 we hosted 7 incredible events attracting over 1500 people to come together, to meet and showcase student talent. Our Day Trips have also been super successful, sending students all across the country to experience the best of the UK in a cheap and affordable package. There really is something for everyone at Bristol SU ⭐
Did you know? We’ve also launched a Local Business Directory, helping you discover Bristol’s best spots and connect with the city beyond campus. Go check it out on the website! 💥
“We need more support when it comes to housing and wellbeing”
We launched a Housing Advice Service, which has already helped hundreds of students with renting issues, deposit disputes, and emergency accommodation. Plus, we continue to signpost wellbeing services across all our channels, so you know where to turn when you need support.
“We need more support for societies”
Student Groups are at the heart of student life, and we’ve made supporting them a strategic priority for the next three years. This year, we introduced a Sports Demo Zone at Welcome Fair so societies can showcase their activities to new students.
We also launched a Training Vault, giving leaders access to recordings anytime, and created Give it a Go Takeover Day to help societies engage new members. Plus, we’ve introduced monthly Bystander Workshops, supported Wellbeing Champions, and provided new guidance, grants, and staff capacity to help societies thrive.
