Why Volunteer?

Volunteering offers vital help to people in need, worthwhile causes, and the community, but the benefits can be even greater for you, the volunteer

WELLBEING

Volunteering is one of five evidence-based steps you can take to improve your mental wellbeing. It might seem counterintuitive to take on more extracurricular activities when you’ve got lots of work to do, but volunteering gets you out of the library and leaves you feeling refreshed. Not only does it offer a great chance to make new friends and meet new people but giving back makes you feel good. Nothing feels better than knowing that you’ve made a difference to someone’s day.

SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

It also gives you experience in a professional environment, demonstrating that you’re willing to give up your time for a good cause, and that you know how to work in a team. Doing good for others will give you a natural sense of accomplishment and boost your self-confidence. If you’re looking to acquire the skills that will prepare you for your future, volunteering roles are easier to come by than internships. Volunteering opportunities act as a safe environment in which you can try out new things. Industries which are renowned for being difficult to break into are made more accessible by hands-on volunteering.

COMMUNITY

Whether you have a strong connection to a particular cause or want to socialise with people from all walks of life, volunteering gets you out of the university bubble and reminds you of the bigger picture. Discover more of Bristol by supporting its hardworking projects!
